Queuing dynamics and single-link stability of delay-based window congestion control

چکیده
Accurate modeling of queueing dynamics is important in the design and analysis of Internet congestion control. However, as demonstrated in this paper, existing window-based queueing models [26,30] are often not capable of precisely capturing the transient behavior (i.e., self-clocking and burstiness) of TCP-like protocols and their resulting analysis may be inaccurate in practice. As one example, we show that stability conditions of FAST TCP based on traditional queuing models [17] that do not considering transient dynamics of the queues are inconsistent with ns2 simulations. We explain the origin of this problem and overcome it by developing a novel approach called Self-clocking Queuing Model (SQM) that accurately describes both the steady-state and transient queuing behavior of windowbased control systems. Using SQM and explicitly incorporating control interval hi in the queuing model and derive a sufficient condition for its local stability under homogeneous delay, which strengthens prior results [29,30] obtained using traditional queuing models. 2009 Elsevier B.V. Global Asymptotic Stability of FAST TCP Network with Heterogeneous Feedback Delays
We consider a single-link multi-source network with FAST TCP sources. We adopt a continuous-time dynamic model for FAST TCP sources, and propose a static model to adequately describe the queuing delay dynamics at the link. The proposed model turns out to have a structure that reveals the time-varying network feedback delay, which allows us to analyze FAST TCP with due consideration of the time-...
متن کاملGlobal stability of a dual congestion control under time-varying queueing delays
This paper concerns the global dynamics of a certain “dual” network congestion control, for which the feedback signal measures a queueing delay at congested links. Earlier studies of this kind of protocol have shown attractive properties of local stability scalable to arbitrary networks, and also global stability results under more restrictive assumptions. All of these have, however, relied on ...
متن کاملModeling and Stability of PERT
Our modeling of PERT is composed of three parts: window adjustment, RED emulation, and queuing behavior. We start with the window dynamics. Similar to [7], we consider a single-link scenario and assume the forward propagation delay from the source to the router is negligible and thus the round-trip time R(t) measured by the end-user at time t is composed of backward propagation delay Tp and que...
متن کاملAccurate Latency-based Congestion Feedback for Datacenters
The nature of congestion feedback largely governs the behavior of congestion control. In datacenter networks, where RTTs are in hundreds of microseconds, accurate feedback is crucial to achieve both high utilization and low queueing delay. Proposals for datacenter congestion control predominantly leverage ECN or even explicit innetwork feedback (e.g., RCP-type feedback) to minimize the queuing ...
متن کاملGlobal Stability Analysis for an Internet Congestion Control Model with a Time-Varying Link Capacity
In this paper, a global stability analysis is given for a rate-based congestion control system modeled by a nonlinear delayed differential equation. The model determines the dynamics of a single-source single-link network, with a timevarying capacity of link and a fixed communication delay. We obtain a sufficient delay-independent conditions on system parameters under which global asymptotic st...
